a unique place to work
We’re a locally owned news organization with strong ties to the communities we serve. At a time when the rest of the industry is cutting and scaling back, we’re growing — adding staff, growing our loyal audience, and expanding our customer base. And we’re firmly committed to news that matters to South Louisiana.
a unique place to live
Louisiana is one of the most unique places in the country, with legendary food, one-of-a-kind music and a famously fun and friendly spirit.
New Orleans
The birthplace of jazz; the home of Mardi Gras; the French Quarter — you know the things New Orleans is world-famous for. But if you come here as more than a tourist, you’ll find even more to love: The spontaneous second-lines, the unexpected bursts of music and a free-wheeling, eclectic spirit. One thing’s for sure: New Orleans is never boring.
Baton Rouge
The capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge is center stage for Louisiana’s famously colorful political scene. It’s also home to LSU and Southern University, which boast some of the most spectacular college sports experiences you’ll find anywhere. And it’s a town full of top-notch restaurants and other cultural experiences.
Lafayette
Lafayette is at the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun Country, settled by Acadians who were expelled from Canada in the late 1700s. It’s a college town surrounded by the most authentic Cajun culture you’ll find, from traditional food to famous festivals to live music.
Shreveport – Bossier City
As the state’s third largest city, Shreveport serves as the commercial and cultural hub of a tri-state region that includes east Texas and southwest Arkansas, also known as the Ark-La-Tex. Founded in northwest Louisiana along the Red River in 1836 with its neighboring Bossier City – founded in 1907 – the Shreveport-Bossier City area is known for its unique blend of southern hospitality, flavorful cuisine, riverboat gaming, family-friendly fun and live entertainment.
diversity, equity
and inclusion
To further our mission for diversion, equity and inclusion, we created a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee made up of employees across our organization. Our goal is to actively recruit and support employees of color, who are LGBTQ+ and who otherwise bring diverse perspectives to our work and coverage. Among the initiatives our DEI committee has led:
- Implemented formal training on implicit bias for managers,
- Set new standards for crime reporting and the use of mug shots in line with the latest industry best practices
- Organized service days in the communities we covered
- Implemented paid parental leave
Want to know more about our company’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion? You can reach DEI committee co-chairs Matthew Albright at malbright@theadvocate.com and Crystal Grammer at cgrammar@theadvocate.com.
